ABOUT DR. PACKER
DR. PACKER is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology. She is an Asst. Clinical Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Science for Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where she supervises psychiatrist trainees and mentors residents’ research. Her many books and articles weave together science, psychiatry, medicine, myth, religion, popular culture, cinema and the arts, attesting to special interest in creativity and culture. Her column on “Why Psychiatrists are Physicians First” appears in Psychiatric Times.
DR. PACKER is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. She is on the executive ctte of APA’s Caucus on Religion and Spirituality. She was appointed to APA’s Council on Addiction Psychiatry and is on the steering ctte for History of Medicine at New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM). A native of Chicago, DR. PACKER earned her M.D. from University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago and completed psychiatry training at St. Vincent’s Hospital in in Greenwich Village, NYC.
